Connery’s breakthrough came in the role of British secret agent James Bond. He was reluctant to commit to a film series, but understood that if the films succeeded, his career would greatly benefit. Between 1962 and 1967, Connery played 007 in Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, and You Only Live Twice, the first five Bond films produced by Eon Productions. After departing from the role, Connery returned for the seventh film, Diamonds Are Forever, in 1971. Connery made his final appearance as Bond in Never Say Never Again, a 1983 remake of Thunderball produced by Jack Schwartzman‘s Taliafilm. All seven films were commercially successful. James Bond, as portrayed by Connery, was selected as the third-greatest hero in cinema history by the American Film Institute.
Connery’s portrayal of Bond owes much to stylistic tutelage from director Terence Young, who helped polish him while using his physical grace and presence for the action. Lois Maxwell, who played Miss Moneypenny, related that “Terence took Sean under his wing. He took him to dinner, showed him how to walk, how to talk, even how to eat”. The tutoring was successful Connery received thousands of fan letters a week after Dr. No’s opening, and he became a major sex symbol in film.

Roquebrune revealed that Connery had been suffering from dementia and told reporters from The Daily Mail that he “went peacefully” on Friday night. After 45 years of marriage, Roquebrune is devastated by the loss.
Connery passed away in his sleep on Friday night, at his home in Nassau a city in the Bahamas. He was 90 years old. Roquebrune admitted that the iconic actor did not handle the symptoms of dementia well. She said: “It was no life for him. He was not able to express himself… At least he died in his sleep and it was just so peaceful.”
“I was with him all the time and he just slipped away,” she went on. “It was what he wanted. He had dementia and it took its toll on him. He got his final wish to slip away without any fuss.”
Roquebrune, herself 91 years old, is a painter of French and Moroccan descent. She is Connery’s second wife, whom he married in 1975. The two met at a golf tournament, and she recalled the romantic beginnings of their relationship.
“He was gorgeous and we had a wonderful life together,” she said. “He was a model of a man. It is going to be very hard without him, I know that. But it could not last forever and he went peacefully.”

Its a situation familiar with anyone who has known someone suffering from the disease.
Micheline was Connerys second wife and had married him in 1975 after the height of Bondmania. Talking about the end of his life she said:
It was no life for him. He was not able to express himself latterly. At least he died in his sleep and it was just so peaceful. I was with him all the time and he just slipped away. It was what he wanted.
Dementia is one of the leading causes of disability in the elderly with one in ten suffering from it. It affects around fifty percent of people aged over 85.

Roquebrunes comments come after Connerys son from his marriage to Cilento, actor Jason Connery, told the BBC that his father had been unwell.

Sean Connery Welcomed His Son Jason With Ex
Sean was first married to Diane Cilento from 1962 to 1973, when they had their son, Jason, together.
However, their marriage was riddled with turmoil and accusations of abuse. Sean met his second wife, Micheline, in 1970 at a golf tournament , and the two of them immediately clicked.
Micheline is a Morrocan-French painter and Broadway play producer who had already been twice married. She brought her three children from previous marriages Oliver, Micha, and Stephane to join Sean’s son, Jason, and complete their blended family.

Scottish Child Payment Set To Double To 20 Per Week From April

The Scottish Child Payment will be doubled to £20 per week from April 2022, Nicola Sturgeon has announced.

She said next weeks Budget will include a £10 increase of the weekly benefit, which supports low-income families with children aged under six.
First introduced in February 2021 as a £10 per week payment designed to tackle child poverty, it provides regular, additional financial support for eligible families.
The benefit, which is unique in the UK, will be fully rolled out to children under the age of 16 by the end of 2022, subject to data on qualifying benefits being received from the Department of Work and Pensions.
It is expected more than 400,000 children could be eligible for the doubled payment from that point.
From 2023/24, it will represent an annual investment in tackling child poverty of around £360m a year.
The First Minister, who credited the coalition with the Scottish Greens for achieving this as quickly as possible, said the Scottish Child Payment is the boldest and most ambitious anti-poverty measure anywhere in the UK.
However, she warned that the decision will cause hard choices elsewhere in our Budget.
The FM said: The Scottish Government is determined to lift children out of poverty.
He added: Doubling the payment for older children cannot come soon enough.

Dementia is a progressive disease that has many causes. Its symptoms worsen gradually over time.
People who have late stage dementia cannot converse any more with their carers.
So they are unable to easily inform them about what is going wrong with them like people without dementia can.
They cannot respond to their environment, or even what their own bodies are telling them if they get a disease or illness.

Hollywood Icon Battled Alzheimers Disease
Sir Sean Connery rose from humble beginnings to become one of the brightest lights in Hollywood history. Connery lost his battle with neurodegenerative disease at age 90.
Its not known how long he battled brain disease, but rumors have circulated about his condition since 2013, when close friend and fellow actor Michael Caine was quoted about Connerys mental health. Caine refuted those comments for years.
However, in a subsequent interview with German newspaper Bild am Sonntag, the actor said that Connery was becoming increasingly confused, often not knowing where he was, and suffering from memory loss.

Connery and Caine became friends after meeting in London in the late 1950s. The friendship between the actors deepened after they appeared in The Man Who Would be King in 1975.
Unfortunately, the rumors were true. After a long battle with dementia, Connery passed quietly on October 31, 2020. His wife, Micheline Roquebrune, shared some insight regarding her husbands final days.

Six Cases Of New Covid
The Scottish Government revealed that six cases of the new variant have been identified.

Four are in the Lanarkshire area and two have been identified in Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
Some of the new cases have no travel history, which suggests there is a degree of community transmission.
Public Health Scotland and local health protection teams are supporting those involved and contact tracing is being undertaken to establish the origin of the virus and any individuals they have come into contact with in recent weeks.
Health Secretary Humza Yousaf confirmed the news as he urged the public to redouble their efforts.
He said: This will be a worrying time for the six people now identified as having the new variant.
All will receive expert help and support and Public Health Scotland will undertake enhanced contact tracing in all cases.
This will help establish the origin of the virus and any further individuals they have come into contact with in recent weeks.
There is still much to learn about the Omicron variant.
Questions remain about its severity, transmissibility and response to treatments or vaccines and scientists are working at pace to provide additional information. Until more is known we must be cautious and do everything we can to minimise the risk of spreading infection.
