The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event, hosted by The Alzheimer’s Association, to bring awareness to Alzheimer’s care. Alzheimer’s Foundation of America was founded in 2002 by a caregiver whose mother passed away after living with Alzheimer’s disease for 12 years.
AFA seeks to provide resources to dementia caregivers, including family education, free memory screening services, dementia care training for professionals, and support groups nationwide.
AFA directs the “Light the Nation” program that turns landmarks teal for one day each November in order to increase dementia awareness.
More than 2,600 organizations have an AFA membership which demonstrates their commitment to quality Alzheimer’s care and ongoing education in the field. AFA provides grants to organizations to further programs directed to dementia care and support, too.

American Brain Foundation: Leading The Fight Against Brain Disease
The American Brain Foundation was founded by the American Academy of Neurology in 1992, to actively pursue improved treatments, prevention, and cures for all brain disorders and diseases, including dementia.

What theyve achieved: Through their Next Generation Research Grants, the American Brain Foundation has provided $33 million to 270 researchers. Over 86% of which have achieved NIH funding for long-term research projects. They also launched a live behind-the-scenes interview with Susan Schneider Williams and Tyler Norwood, after the release of the film Robins Wish, which documented the iconic actor Robin Williams unknown battle with Lewy body dementia. Not only did this raise awareness of Lewy body dementia, but it also led to the launch of the AMF Lewy Body Dementia fund which has raised more than $3.25 million to date.

About Alzheimer Society Of Canada:
Founded in 1978, Alzheimer Society of Canada funds research and provides support services for people living with dementia and Alzheimers disease. Dementia refers to a series of chronic nervous system diseases that impair memory, thought processes, and speech. Alzheimers disease is the most common form of dementia. Alzheimer Society of Canada states that more than 500,000 Canadians are living with dementia and around 25,000 new cases are diagnosed each year.
